Basée sur une histoire entièrement écrite par Charlotte, « The Deviant Hearts » narre la vie de deux enfants avec un coeur dont la taille évolue en fonction de leurs émotions : le bonheur leur fait grossir le coeur, la tristesse le réduit. L'ensemble est accompagné de références mythiques et fantastiques. Globalement le récit traite également des émotions vécues lorsqu'il faut prendre des risques dans la vie.
Pour mener à bien ce projet, le trio s'est entouré de multiples musiciens connus tels que Tom Englund (Evergrey), Dennis Schunke (Van Canto) et Chloe Lowery (Transsiberian Orchestra, Chameleon) au chant, mais aussi Jason Gianni (Daredevil Squadron, Neal Morse Band, Transsiberian Orchestra) à la batterie, Randy George (Neal Morse Band, Ajalon) à la basse et Tom Buchberger (ex-Serenity) à la guitare. Autant vous dire que « The Deviant Hearts » est un chef d'oeuvre et probablement l'album le plus prenant et impactant émotionnellement qu'il nous soit arrivé d'entendre depuis longtemps .
Tout commence par un moment d'intimité avec la superbe ballade "Incomplete" tout en piano et duo vocal (Charlotte et Georg). Ambitieuse entrée en matière qui a le mérite de poser les bases d'un concept album pas comme les autres.
"The Deviant Hearts", le titre suivant est un chef d'oeuvre capable d'enchainer des ambiances pop, rock, heavy et métal progressif, plus particulièrement sur le pont central instrumental ainsi que la partie finale. Un grand moment.
Charlotte enchante dans "Runaway Gray", magnifique ballade épique principalement orchestrée de nappes et de piano.
Notre coup de coeur va pour la sublime interprétation de la chanteuse Chloé Lowery sur le titre "Try": l'envolée sur le refrain est grandiose ainsi que le pont chanté par Georg. La partie centrale nous rappelle que l'esprit doit rester métal: les guitares s'emballent, les voix aussi. Chef d'oeuvre garanti !
Etrangement, même les titres plus métal fonctionnent: "Enter Dreamscape" nous rappelle l'esprit Delain. Sur "Crimson Course" le timbre de voix et la mélodie du chant nous ramène tout droit vers Queen et Marillion pour le solo de guitare. "Novaturient" nous embarque dans un voyage metalo-médiéval. Les influences Queen / Meat Loaf se reconnaissent facilement sur "Miserable Me". Les arrangements proches du rock progressif sont au service des mélodies vocales très originales. Les orchestrations et le magnifique solo de guitare renforcent la puissance de ce titre. Un must.
Le superbe duo Charlotte / Georg sur le refrain "The Lotus and The Willow" est de nature a vous mettre le frisson sans parler du géantissime solo de guitare. Incontestablement un des titres phare de cet album.
Les ballades s'enchainent pour notre plus grand plaisir. "The sound of Fear" pourrait être le titre phare d'une B.O. d'un grand film. C'est mélodique, c'est superbement bien composé, bien chanté, bien interprété. Le refrain est grandiose et le solo de guitare efficace. Un très grand moment.
Avec Phantasma, Charlotte et Georg confirment leur grand talent de compositeurs. "Deviant Hearts" est incontestablement le concept album de l'année à la fois grandiose, épique, mélodique et puissant. Merci pour ce chef d'oeuvre.
Based on a story written entirely by Charlotte, "The Deviant Hearts" narrates the life of two children of which the size of their hearts changes according to their emotions: happiness makes them swell the heart, the sadness reduces it. The story comes with fantastic and mythical references. Overall the story also deals with the emotions experienced when you need to take risks in life.

It's like saying that "The Deviant Hearts" is a masterpiece, and probably the most addictive and emotionally affecting album that we happened to hear for a long time.
Everything starts with a moment of intimacy with the beautiful ballad "Incomplete" all in piano and vocal duet (Charlotte and Georg). Ambitious preamble which has the merit of laying the foundations of a concept album like no other.
"The Deviant Hearts", the song, is a masterpiece able to chain pop moods, rock, heavy metal and progressive, especially on the instrumental central bridge and the final part. A great moment.
Charlotte delights in "Runaway Gray" magnificent epic ballad mainly orchestrated on keyboards and piano.
Our favorite goes for the sublime interpretation of the singer Chloe Lowery on the track "Try": the soaring on the chorus is great as well as the bridge sung by Georg. The central part reminds us that the spirit must remain metal: revved guitars, voices too. Masterpiece guaranteed !
Strangely, even the metal songs work well : "Enter Dreamscape" reminds us of Delain mind. On "Crimson Course" the tone of voice and the melody of the song takes us straight to the Queen and Marillion guitar solo. "Novaturient" takes us on a journey metal-medieval. Queen / Meat Loaf influences easily recognized on "Miserable Me". The nearly progressive rock arrangements are in the service of the very original vocal melodies. Orchestrations and beautiful guitar solo strengthen the power of this title. A must !
The beautiful Charlotte / Georg duet on the chorus "The Lotus and The Willow" is likely to get you the thrill not to mention the amazing guitar solo. Unquestionably one of the significant songs of this album.
Ballads keep coming to our delight. "The Sound of Fear" could be the title track of a soundtrack of a great film. It's melodic, it's superbly written, sang well, played well. The chorus is magnificent and effective guitar solo. A great moment.
With Phantasm, Charlotte and Georg confirm that they are great and talented composers. "Deviant Hearts" is undoubtedly the concept album of the year at once grandiose, epic, melodic and powerful. Thank you for this masterpiece.
