Korpiklaani dévoile un nouveau clip et un morceau surprenant par son calme

Korpiklaani nous dévoile le clip de ''Harmaja'', une chanson qu'on pourra retrouver sur ''Kulkija'', le prochain album du groupe qui est annoncé pour le 7 septembre via Nuclear Blast. Début juin, le groupe avait déjà mis en ligne la chanson ''Kotikonnut''. Ce nouveau clip a été réalisé par Ville Lipiäinen et tourné au Maritime Safety Training Centre de Lohja, en Finlande.

À propos de ''Harmaja'' (''Le Gris'') : La fauvette à tête noire (Sylvia atricapilla), l'oiseau de la chanson, a été incapable de migrer vers le sud à cause d'une aile cassée et la chanson dépeint son 'inquiétude et sa mémoire évanescente. Un poète finlandais, Zachris Topelius, a écrit en 1853 un poème intitulé ''Sylvian joululaulu'' sur le mal du pays auquel se réfère ''laulu kaipauksen'' (une chanson de nostalgie) dans la chanson. Elle peut également signifier la ''grisaille'' quand un partenaire d'un vieux couple meurt.

Jonne, le chanteur du groupe explique: '''Harmaja' est une chanson assez inhabituelle pour Korpiklaani avec son rythme lent et sa force émotionnelle. Elle parle de nostalgie et j'ai réussi à la charger avec une grande atmosphère émotionnelle. Lors des premières prises, nous ne nous sommes pas attardés sur des détails futiles puisqu'il était important pour nous de garder l'émotion et l'ambiance au premier plan même si le côté technique n'était pas absolument parfait par moments. J'ai été surpris, dans un sens positif, que Nuclear Blast ait voulu sortir ''Harmaja'' en single et en vidéo parce qu'en général ils préfèrent des chansons plus rapides et amusantes. Le nouvel album, ''Kulkija'', dure une heure et contient toute la portée des différentes émotions. [...] J'ai acheté une nouvelle guitare classique et j'ai commencé à me familiariser avec la technique de picking à 5 doigts. J'ai créé un exercice de doigt qui a ensuite servi de base à la chanson. J'ai envoyé une version très basique de la chanson à notre parolier, Tuomas Keskimäki, qui, dans la même soirée, a renvoyé les paroles de ''Harmaja''. Le texte fait référence à ''Sylvian Joululaulu'', un poème bien connu à propos de Zachris Topelius. J'ai chanté la démo dans mon home studio immédiatement et c'était tout : la chanson était bonne et forte tout de suite et je savais que ça allait finir sur l'album. La vidéo a été tournée dans la piscine du centre de formation à la sécurité maritime de Lohja. L'eau était si froide que même des visites constantes au sauna ne pouvaient empêcher la froideur de pénétrer dans mes os et je devais garder ma tête au-dessus de la surface de l'eau et chanter tout en essayant de donner l'impression de ne pas mourir de froid ! Nous avons réussi à créer un joli contraste dans la vidéo avec l'ange ; le réalisateur, Ville Lipiäinen, l'a trouvé accidentellement en faisant quelques courses et, je ne sais pas s'il a trébuché sur ses ailes ou quoi, mais l'ange a volé dans la même piscine à Lohja. L'histoire de cette chanson est celle d'un homme qui a perdu sa femme décédée et qui revient de l'au-delà pour un dernier au revoir, afin que le pauvre puisse continuer sa vie et qu'il réussisse à se glisser hors des eaux tumultueuses vers la terre ferme. Ville Lipiäinen savait exactement ce qui était nécessaire pour la vidéo et a réussi à créer juste la bonne atmosphère. Les prises de vue changent lentement, il n'y a pas de ruée vers quoi que ce soit et l'histoire reste juste au-dessus de la surface jusqu'à la fin plus orageuse.''


Tuomas, le violoniste du groupe, ajoute: ''Une réparation coûteuse a été faite pour mon ami de longue date, un violon Collin-Mézin de 1896, qui lui a donné une nouvelle vie. Il a été utilisé pour la première fois en dix ans pour cet album. Son son a dépassé toutes les attentes et ''Harmaja'' en est un bon exemple: ce que vous entendez, c'est la meilleure combinaison possible !''

Korpiklaani unveiled the clip of ''Harmaja'', a song from ''Kulkija'', the next album of the band which is announced for September 7th via Nuclear Blast. At the beginning of June, the band had already put on line the song ''Kotikonnut''. This new clip was made by Ville Lipiäinen and shot at the Maritime Safety Training Center in Lohja, Finland.

About 'Harmaja' ("The Grey"): The blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla), the bird in the song, has been unable to migrate south because of a broken wing. The song depicts anxiety and the fading memory. A Finnish poet Zachris Topelius wrote in 1853 a poem titled 'Sylvian joululaulu' about homesickness which is referred to by 'laulu kaipauksen' (a song of yearning) in the song. The song can also mean the "grayness" when a partner of an old couple dies.

The band's frontman, Jonne, says: "'Harmaja' is an unusual KORPIKLAANI song with its slow tempo and emotional strength. The song is about longing and I managed to charge it with a great emotional atmosphere. When making the album we mostly used the first takes; we didn't get stuck in details when there was no particular need to. It was important for us to keep the emotion and mood at the forefront even if the technical side wasn't absolutely perfect at times. I was surprised - although in a positive sense – that Nuclear Blast wanted to release 'Harmaja' as a single and a video. Usually they prefer more uptempo, fun drinking songs. The new album Kulkija of course has that material too since being over an hour long it contains the entire scope of different emotions. [...] I bought a new classical guitar and started to reacquaint myself with the 5-finger picking technique. I created a finger exercise that then formed the basis of the song. The exercise started to sound more and more like an actual piece of music and suddenly a melody came out of that. I sent a very basic version of the song to our lyricist Tuomas Keskimäki who, in the same evening, sent back the lyrics for 'Harmaja'. The text refers to 'Sylvian Joululaulu', a well known poem about longing by Zachris Topelius. I sang the demo in my home studio immediately and that was it - the song felt good and strong right away and I knew that it was going to end up on the album. The video was shot in the pool of the Maritime Safety Training Centre in Lohja. The water was so cold that even constant visits to the sauna couldn't stop the coldness from creeping into my bones. It was very difficult to remember the lyrics, keep my head above the surface of the water and sing – while at the same time trying to look like I wasn’t freezing to death. All for art! We managed to create a nice contrast in the video with the angel. Director Ville Lipiäinen found her accidentally while grocery shopping. I don't know if he stumbled on her wings or what, but the angel also flew to the same pool in Lohja. The story is about a man missing his dead wife who then returns from the afterlife for one last goodbye, so that the poor man can go on with his life. He manages to drag himself out of the stormy waters back to dry land. Lipiäinen knew exactly what was needed for the video and managed to create just the right atmosphere. The shots change slowly, there is no rush with anything and the story stays just right above the surface until the more stormy ending."

Tuomas, the band's violinist, adds: "An expensive repair was done for my long lost friend, a Collin-Mézin violin from 1896, giving it a new lease of life. It was used for the first time in ten years for this album and its sound exceeded all expectations. Harmaja is a good example of it. What you hear is basically the best of two run through takes combined."
