Après le décès de son épouse, Deven, dans des circonstances encore non-élucidées, Jonathan Davis, frontman du groupe Korn, a décidé de prendre la parole pour revenir sur cette perte tragique. Deven n'était âgée que de 39 ans. Connue pour ses problèmes d'addiction, elle était sortie de désintoxication une semaine avant sa mort.

« Durant la dernière décennie, ma femme a été vraiment, vraiment très malade. Elle souffrait d'une maladie mentale très sérieuse et son addiction en était un symptôme secondaire. Je l'aimais de tout mon être. Quand elle était elle-même, elle était une femme incroyable, une mère incroyable et une amie incroyable. Deven avait un coeur énorme et elle ne blessait jamais intentionnellement ses enfants ou quiconque qu'elle aimait. C'était une personne incroyablement généreuse, aimante et amusante. Elle était pleine de vie et de joie et faisait tout pour partager ça avec ceux qui l'entouraient.
J'ai essayé de cacher ce qui se passait depuis si longtemps afin de la protéger, mais à cause de cette tragédie qui est arrivée à ma famille, je pense que le moment est venu de partager la vérité avec vous tous. Elle est la raison pour laquelle j'ai tellement plaidé la cause de ceux qui ont des problèmes de santé mentale et je veux que son histoire inspire les gens à demander de l'aide et à ne pas avoir peur ou se cacher de leur maladie.
Si vous connaissez une personne atteinte de maladie mentale, montrez lui de la compassion et de l'empathie et souvenez-vous qu'elle n'est pas une mauvaise personne ; elle souffre. Je veux que cela inspire un changement. Je veux que la loi californienne change pour aider les gens comme moi à aider les autres à obtenir l'aide dont ils ont besoin. Comment une personne malade peut-elle se rendre compte qu'elle a besoin d'aide ? Elle n'était pas assez bien pour se rendre compte à quel point elle était malade et n'était pas en mesure d'obtenir l'aide qu'elle nécessitait. Cela ne devrait pas arriver à d'autres mères ni à quiconque. Je donnerais n'importe quoi pour avoir la chance de la faire revenir. Je donnerais n'importe quoi pour que mes enfants aient leur mère. J'ai malgré tout du réconfort en sachant qu'elle est maintenant libérée de sa maladie et elle est enfin en paix.
Deven, je t'aime bébé. Je n'aimerai jamais personne comme je t'ai aimée, et je n'arriverai jamais à surmonter ta perte. Je promets que je ferai tout ce qui est en mon pouvoir pour élever nos précieux garçons, leur apprendre les bonnes valeurs que tu voulais qu'ils aient et pour briser le cycle d'abus que nous connaissions tous les deux en tant qu'enfants Je ferai tout ce que je peux pour que tes rêves pour l'avenir se réalisent en ta mémoire.
Le tatouage dans ton dos, le poème que j'ai écrit pour toi quand nous avons commencé à sortir ensemble, dit: « Même mort, je serai à tes côtés mon amour », en allemand. Je jure qu'un jour, avec toi à mes côtés, je te rejoindrais quand ma vie sur Terre prendra fin. Je t'aime Luber. »
Les dernières informations tendent à prouver que Jonathan Davis avait déposé une plainte pour violences domestiques avant la découverte du corps inanimé de Deven. Il y affirme qu'elle fréquentait un trafiquant de drogue. De nombreuses substances illicites ont été retrouvées parmi ses affaires.
Ce drame survient quelques jours à peine après le suicide de Jill Janus et s'inscrit, une nouvelle fois, dans la trop longue liste des décès et suicides de ses dernières années (Chris Cornell de Soundgarden et Audioslave ; Chester Bennington de Linkin Park…).

"Over the past decade, my wife has been very, very sick. She had a very serious mental illness and her addiction was a side effect. I loved her with ALL of my being. When she was her true self, she was an amazing wife, amazing mother and amazing friend. Deven had a huge heart, and she would never intentionally hurt her children or anyone that she loved. She was an incredibly nurturing, giving, loving and hilarious person. She was full of life and joy, and would do anything to share that with those around her.
I tried to hide what was going on for so long in order to protect her, but because of this tragedy that has happened to my family, I feel that now is the time to share the truth with all of you. She is the reason I have advocated so hard for those struggling with their mental health. I want her story to inspire people to reach out for help, and not to be afraid or hide from their illness.
If you know someone with a mental illness, have compassion and empathy, and know that they are not bad people, they are suffering. I want this to inspire change. I want California law to change to help people like me help others get the help they need. How can someone who is sick realize themselves that they need help? She wasn't well enough to realize how sick she really was, and wasn't able to get the help for herself that she really needed. This shouldn't have to happen to other mothers, or anyone for that matter. I'd give anything to have the chance to hold her again. I'd give anything for my kids to have their mother back. I have comfort in knowing that now she has found freedom from her illness, and she is finally at peace.
Deven, love you bebe. I'll never love anyone the way I loved you, and I'll never get over losing you. I promise I'll do everything in my power to raise our precious boys the right way, teach them the good values you wanted them to have so badly, and to break the cycle of abuse we both experienced as kids. I'll do everything I can to make your dreams you that you had for the future come true in your memory.
The tattoo down your back, the poem I wrote for you when we started dating, said, 'Even in death, I'll be by your side my love,' in German. I swear one day with you by your side when my ride here on earth is over. I love you, Luber."
The latest information tends to prove that Jonathan Davis had filed a domestic violence complaint before the discovery of Deven's dead body. He says that she was seeing a drug dealer. Many illicit substances have been found in her stuff.
This dramatic death comes right after Jill Janus' suicide and forms part again of the too long list of deaths and suicides of this last years (Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park ...).
